Public Notice regarding CLJMA Sewer Line Break

On 6/27/2026 at 9:31a.m., the Conneaut Lake Joint Municipal Authority (CLJMA) was notified of a possible sanitary sewer line break at the end of Shady Ave in Conneaut Lake, PA.  The CLJMA manager and operator responded immediately and found a leaking section of force main.  Emergency crews were contacted, the pump station feeding the line was shut down, and sludge haulers were brought in to bypass flow around the damaged section.  An estimated 5,000 gallons of sewage entered the lake.  The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission were notified and onsite at times during the repair.

Emergency crews located the damaged section of force main, but repairs were delayed because the break was directly beneath a concrete seawall.  Early Sunday, CLJMA decided to continue bypassing the damaged section with sludge haulers while working with engineers and contractors on a repair plan.

CLJMA used sludge haulers to bypass normal sanitary flow on Sunday, June 28, Monday June 29, and Tuesday June 30, until the damaged line was repaired.  Flow returned to normal on Tuesday afternoon, June 30.

CLJMA is currently working with engineers to possibly reroute that section of line.

Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission was onsite and deemed everything safe and no cleanup was required.
